So there we sat with a spark in our hands
Passing it from one to another
Back and forth
Waiting to see who can hold it for longer
Checking how long we can make it last
Before one of us gets burned
Or the spark withers and dies out
The thing about fire
It's a magical thing
It's bright, bold, and beautiful
It lights the world, it shows us the way
It grows our food, it warms our souls
Another thing about fire
It's a tricky thing
It's dangerous, and it spreads quickly
It destroys, devours, and burns
It's hard to tame, and even harder to distinguish
So, we inched toward the flames
Together
We felt it start to build, start to burn
We held ourselves back while we held each other close.
We played with fire, and we were not consumed.
We walked away unscathed
This time.
